Civil Wedding Guide Philippines: How We “DIY” Our Wedding

Here’s how we prepared for our civil wedding. Writing this to immortalize the memories!

We got married on December 22, 2022. As two busy adults who do not want to inconvenience people and spend a lot on our wedding ceremony, we opted to have a civil wedding. It’s practical, time-saving, and less complicated… and it fits us. What’s important for us is that we will be ‘legally’ committed to each other. I believe that the Universe blesses all relationships with pure intention, no matter how they choose to do the ceremony or even if they don’t choose to do any wedding ceremony at all.

Preparing for our Civil Wedding

Documentary Requirements for the Civil Wedding

We started completing the papers in October 2021. Thankfully, lahat ay super easy lang for us. Lesson namin dito is to maintain the excellent record-keeping practices ng aming mga ina. Hahaha. I-photocopy at i-scan na lahat ng documents ahead of time. And make sure na yung scanned copies ay accessible sa amin pareho, anytime and anywhere (e.g., Google Drive, Messenger sent to yourself ganern).

Here are the requirements for Malabon City residents applying for Marriage License.

Hahahaha. So, if you are from Malabon and planning to apply here, aside from the above-mentioned requirements, magdala ka rin ng long brown envelope and white long folder. When you completed the requirements, go to the Local Civil Registry Office and get the Application for Marriage License Form. Four (4) times kang magsusulat dahil 4 copies ang kailangan at dapat alam mo na ang lahat ng information about your parents, addresses, etc. After that, ipapa-notarize ito. Around Php 350.00 ang nagastos namin for notarization sa city hall. After that, we were given a schedule for the Family Planning Seminar.

Solemnizing Officer for our Civil Wedding

Of course, with a fee na ito. Thankfully, I came across the page of Reverend Florante L. Barretto at may available schedule pa siya ng December. Yaaaay! Super important tip here is to ask for their name and check their license sa website ng Philippine Statistics Office. You should be able to see the validity and geographic scope of their license there. Also, check the page if they regularly post about marriages na na-solemnize nila. Feel free to reach out sa couples and ask about their experience.

Civil Wedding Venue in Malabon City

Next challenge naman is to find a wedding venue. We could have celebrated after the ceremony sa isang restaurant. Salamat sa Ate Jerlin because she shouldered the food and venue. Huhuhu. So nagbigay na lang kami ng external hard drive for them to put the photos.

Pero I still wanted a functional souvenir for the wedding. Kaya naisip kong tote bag na lang. And it was printed by Printsopedia.ph na sobrang ganda ng quality at mabilis din ang paggawa at delivery. Marami kaming sobra, gusto niyong bumili? Charot hahaha.

Civil Wedding Outfits

Two times ako bumili ng damit. Hahaha. Una, sa Cebu. Kasi nandoon na ko for a training. And maraming store there specializing sa civil wedding outfits. The dress was soooo nice. So the dress was chosen for that venue. Pero nung nagkaroon na ng ibang venue, I felt like the dress was too simple for the event and the venue hahahaha. Salamat sa sisters from another mother and father, Ate Avs and Thei, for accompanying me na maghanap ng gown sa D8 Mall sa Divisoria, at bra, at girdle haha. May shoes naman na akong sarili so I don’t need a new one.

HAHAHA. We ended up buying another long sleeves sa pinagbilhan ko ng gown para magkakulay kami. Napa-rent din kami ng coat and tie sa The RENT by Jaynard Orque Jr na maganda and affordable.

Cupcakes and other details for the Civil Wedding Reception

Next ay ang cupcakes. Hahaha. Thank you sa kanila also for arranging the delivery. 🥰

I am glad I found a person on Facebook who letter-cuts nicely. Php 75 per letter so “J and L” lang ang kinaya hahaha. If I had more time, I could have made that myself, too! Lol.

Sa make up naman, I fixed myself. Ilang araw akong nag-practice. Alam kong mahal magpa-HMUA and I don’t want to spend a lot of money for that, though I know na dasurv naman ng mga make-up artists ang bayad na hinihingi nila. I feel lang na kaya ko naman… Ibinili ko na lang ng make up products na wala ako yung supposed to be pambayad sa artist lol. I’m gonna pay myself with products, girl! Hahaha. Sa hair naman, thankful ako kay Thei for really making my hair pretty that day. 🤩

Since super konti lang ng nasa guest list, gusto ko sana gawin na fun and happy lang ang reception… that was why I insisted na mag-hire ng host. I found Excellent Host – Kim and OTD Team sa Facebook din and I am super happy na siya ang nakita kong host. Ginawa niya lahat to make the event happy kahit konti lang kami. Super aga niya sa venue. Super taas ng energy. Made sure na okay ang program. 🥰

Wedding Day and Post Activities

One day before the wedding lang ako nag-leave sa trabaho. On the day of the wedding, I don’t know how I managed the anxiety. Nag-let go na lang ako kung may darating ba or wala or magkaka-aberya ba o hindi. Hahaha. Sigaw ako ng sigaw habang nagme-make up at habang naghahanda ng sarili to let the anxiety cool off a bit. Hahahahah. Days before din, lagi kami nagka-countdown ni James. He also expressed na kinakabahan siya dahil hindi sanay na kami ang star sa event.

After the wedding, ako mismo ang nagsubmit ng Certificate of Marriage sa LCR ng Malabon. May package naman na si Reverend na ang magsubmit, pero mas gusto kong ako ang maglakad ng papeles para sure akong magkakaroon ako ng copy agad and also, for the experience. December 23, nasubmit ako ng mga papers and photocopy ng license at ID ni Rev at same day ay nakuha ko naman ang registered paper… Pati certified true copy. May bayad pero very mura lang.

Thankful ako sa family, especially sa mga magulang namin, mga kaibigan, ninong at ninangs (na nahihiya talaga kaming abalahin pero since kailangan hahaha), workmates na naglaan ng leave nila to attend, nag-take ng photos and videos (Thei and Ate Joy) nagpaabot ng mensahe, nagbigay ng gift (OMG special mention kay Pia na nagdrawing ng portraits ni Bonchongking at Kastiel) mga taong nagpa-abala sa normal day nila to make the wedding memorable for us.

Nag-uusap kami ni James after… It was like all the Universes really conspired to make it happen. And we couldn’t disagree kasi parang lahat ay madali naming naayos. God led us to the right people, right moments… Nangyari ang kasal dahil the Universe allowed us to. 🥰

Here’s also a reminder and encouragement sa mga nag-aalinlangang magpakasal dahil sa gastusin. Trust yourselves. Give yourselves enough time to prepare especially kung bet niyo ring DIY gaya namin. Ensure your suppliers na legit. Trust your support system. Ask for help sa simple things. Communicate with your partner. Share your worries and fears. Magdasal. Magtiwala sa Universe.
